Welcome to Excursions! This class offers an incredible opportunity to engage in one of the most educational experiences a person can have: traveling. Even more still, this class will help foster one of the most important beliefs we need to impart to our students: 1) you can do big things on your own AND 2) you can take on daunting goals and still succeed. Along the way, students will build resilience, self-efficacy, and broaden their cultural awareness. This class will have its challenges and struggles and will ask more out of a student than a typical class, but in return, students will walk away knowing that they can get themselves anywhere with the right plans and actions.

No. Parents and teachers play a crucial role in this journey, but parents are not allowed to join in the travel. We, as teachers, will ensure a safe, fun, and educational experience for the students throughout the year, and especially while abroad. We will be here to support and motivate the students as they tackle a hard, but fulfilling experience. We will also fill in the cultural experience with background knowledge, context, and research on the various things they will see.
As parents, we ask you to coach your student, but not to do it for your student. By doing for, we are robbing the students of an opportunity to see what they can do for themselves. If a student really struggles, sometimes doing with can be helpful, but only as a way to eventually empower the student to do on their own

This class will focus on the power of a person to create opportunities for themselves. Students will learn how to take their interests and abilities and make them into small fundraising opportunities. Most students will operate a fundraiser that is sustainable to maintain, in addition to the various opportunities to earn money as a group. You would be surprised at home much you and your group can hussle!

We work as a team and if we don't all meet our fundraising goals, then our trip may need to change. Rather than staying at a 4 star hotel, maybe we camp? No matter what, we will find a way to have some kind of experience! In iceland, we traveled and lived in two vans for tweleve days! It was truley amazing!! Travel can always happen, our comfort is what is up in the air!
